Bright Horizons Opens 300th Family Center

Bright Horizons Family Solutions (NASDAQ:BFAM) celebrated its landmark 300th center this winter when it opened the doors to the Bright Horizons Family Center at ASU Research Park. Located on the grounds of Arizona State University's corporate office park, the center will serve more than 230 children in Tempe. Motorola has already reserved 80 percent of the child care slots for its employees. With 11 domestic child care centers managed by Bright Horizons and two centers abroad, Motorola offers more work-site child care than any employer worldwide.

Mason Signs Contract with Random House

Linda Mason, Chairman and Founder of Bright Horizons, has signed a contract with Crown Publishing, a division of Random House, to author a handbook for working mothers. Entitled Mother to Mother: Successful Strategies for Working Mothers, the book will offer practical advice, support and tips for working mothers trying to balance home and work life. Mason will be interviewing more than 100 working mothers across the nation who can offer their wisdom and experiences to Mason's readers. The book is due for release by Mother's Day 2002.

Brown to Head National Child Care Accreditation Commission

Bright Horizons CEO Roger Brown will be chairing a special, two-year, 12-member commission to reinvent the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) accreditation process. Sharon Lynn Kagan and Kathy Thornburg, president and president-elect of NAEYC, asked Brown to head the commission because of Bright Horizons' exemplary track record in managing centers to the high standards set by NAEYC and because of Brown's personal and professional commitment to child advocacy. The commission is charged with analyzing the current accreditation process and developing methods to strengthen the process to allow it to serve the industry effectively for the next era.

Bright Horizons Acquires Premiere Florida Preschools

Bright Horizons Family Solutions has brought Discovery Preschools, one of Florida's premiere early education operations, into its national family of 300 quality Family Centers and back-up centers. Founded more than 10 years ago, Discovery Preschools brings two schools, one located in Coral Springs and the other in Coconut Creek, Florida and more than 1,100 children to the Bright Horizons network. The centers' unique enrichment activities focus on movement, arts, music and foreign language development for children. Both the Coral Springs and Coconut Creek schools will be available to clients using the National Access Program. With Discovery Preschools founders Jerry and Rosa Maria Sternberg playing a consulting role, Bright Horizons plans to build and operate additional high-quality programs in the South Florida market.

Bright SPACES and HSBC Team Up to Serve Buffalo's Homeless Children

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and HSBC have teamed up to open the newest Bright SPACES program in Buffalo, NY. This Bright SPACES program will provide a fully equipped children's play area in the Salvation Army's transitional housing facility serving homeless families and children in Buffalo, NY.
