Thanks employees by donating to relief effort in their names

WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2005-- Bright Horizons Family Solutions (NASDAQ: BFAM), the world's leading provider of employer-sponsored child care and early education, was one of only three Massachusetts-based employers named today to FORTUNE magazine's prestigious list of "The 100 Best Companies to Work For." In keeping with the company's mission to make an impact on children and families worldwide, Bright Horizons is making a donation to tsunami relief efforts in the name of its 16,000 employees in recognition of their contributions to making the company a great place to work.

This is the sixth time Bright Horizons has been named to this list, and each year it has used funds to recognize its employees for this achievement. The company's employees were informed that this year these funds will be used to make a gift of $16,000 - that is $1 for each Bright Horizons employee worldwide - to relief efforts that will support the needs of children and families suffering from the December 26 tragedy in South Asia. The company has also pledged to match dollar-for-dollar contributions made by Bright Horizons employees to a special fund established with the company's global aid and tsunami relief partner, Mercy Corps International.

"We are very proud to have been recognized in this way by FORTUNE magazine and equally proud of our many client partners who also received this distinction. As a family 16,000 strong dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and families throughout the world, we feel it is paramount that Bright Horizons play a role in the relief effort for victims of this global tragedy, so many of whom are children. Our commitment to serving those in need - wherever they may be - is part of the fabric of our mission," said Bright Horizons Chief Executive Officer David Lissy.

"All our employees work hard every day to teach, care for and nurture young children. There is no better way to honor their dedication and commitment than by contributing to this critical relief effort in their name. We are proud of all they do to make Bright Horizons a great place to work, and we hope this recognition illuminates the true scope of the impact they make," said Bright Horizons President and Chief Operating Officer Mary Ann Tocio.

The annual FORTUNE "100 Best Companies to Work For" list recognizes employers who go beyond the norm to make their workplaces among the best in the nation. Among the stringent criteria for this list are the results of a random survey of employees about such issues as their view of management, job satisfaction and camaraderie within the organization, which constitutes two-thirds of a company's total score. The list, compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, also measures employers' policies and corporate cultures. Companies are then scored in four key areas: credibility, respect, fairness, and pride/camaraderie. Bright Horizons was named to this list at #98 this year and 36th among large employers.
